I ponder regularly on feelings. I used to shove down most feelings (nope, can’t feel that!). I keep learning that emotions and feelings (and actually letting myself experience them!) are mission critical to actually thriving and life not sucking. And on terminology, whether totally accurate or not, I use the words pretty interchangeably.
From a search on Google:
Feeling: An emotional state or reaction.
Emotion: A natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others.
Consider: What if feelings and emotions aren’t good or bad? What if they just are? (Hint: They just are.)
What I’ve seen: Feeling a feeling, especially a different one, can seem scary, somehow. And — if I’m not feeling whatever feelings come up, life starts to feel crappy and I start to feel stuck.
Good news: We won’t die from experiencing a feeling.
Relating to change: If you want something to be different in your life, if you want to see a change — you have to feel differently. Like literally experience or be in a different emotional state. If you feel the same emotions again and again, the outcome isn’t going to change.
